MSU prof's name for search panel
The joint board of Vice-chancellors of all universities in Gujarat suggested the name of Head of department of Applied Mathematics, M S University Dr V D Pathak as the second member on the search panel that will select the successor of Ashwin Kapadia, who resigned recently.The name was suggested at a meeting held at South Gujarat University's administrative building here on Tuesday. The first name -- Himanshu Bhatt -- was suggested by the Syndicate and Academic Council in the first week of September. The third member on the search panel will be named by the Governor. The name of panel chairman will also be announced by the governor along with its nominee. The search panel will suggest three names, one of which will be named the vice-chancellor, the post that became vacant with the resignation of Kapadia.
Docs' stir on
The fast-unto-death by Junior doctors attached to the New Civil Hospital and the Surat Government Medical College entered its second day on Tuesday, even as 11 of them reported sick. President of the city unit of JDA, Pritu Dhalaria claimed that urine samples of 11 out of 14 agitating doctors was acetone positive. Though authorities requested police to intervene and shift the doctors for treatment, they refused treatment. Dhalaria maintained that the strike would continue till their demand for more stipend was met.
Public library
A public library, set up by Gujarat government's Youth and Cultural department, in Vyara has been thrown open for the public. Veteran journalist Ishwarbhai Chauhan inaugurated the library on October 2.
Medical camp
The South Dang forest department held a medical camp in Gotiyamal village. While the camp was inaugurated by the village sarpanch, the Surat Education Trust, the District Health Department and the Waghai Agriculture Science Centre extended support to make the camp successful. Among others, DFO (South Dang) Ram Kumar was present on the occasion.
Suggestions
In a bid to induce transparency in the functioning of government departments, the central government has invited suggestions from those working in government (central or state) offices as well as the public at large. The government has announced cash prizes of upto Rs 1 lakh for those providing effective suggestions. Besides, Rs 10,000 will be given as prizes to those who suggest ways for effective administration. Suggestions should be sent to the concerned departments. Details can be obtained from the Complaints Division, Sardar Patel Bhavan Marg, New Delhi.
Garba held
The State government's Youth Services and Cultural Activities department organised a raas-garba mahotsava for residents of rural areas of Surat district in Vyara recently. Held in Dakshinapanth Vividhlakshi Vidyalaya's compound, the function was inaugurated by Bardoli MLA and national secretary of Anusuchit Jati Janjati Morcha Rajnikant Rajwadi.
