SURAT, Oct 6: Three people, including a two-year-old girl, were killed in separate cases of road accidents registered in the city and district police stations on Tuesday, the police said.Two-year-old Poonam Koli was killed on the spot when she came under the rear wheels of a truck on Tuesday in the Salabatpura area of the city, the police said. In the two other cases of accidents reported in the Palsana taluka of the district on Tuesday, a tempo-cleaner died when the vehicle lost balance and a motorcyclist was killed when he was run over by a speeding truck.
Providing further information, the Salabatpura police said that Poonam was standing near the Laxmi Petrol pump on Puna Kumbharia Road when the driver of a truck (HR 09 4455) ran his vehicle over the girl, killing her instantaneously. The police added that the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene immediately.
The police have seized the vehicle and are investigating. The victim's father, who lives in a slum opposite to where the incident took place, lodged a complaint in the police station.
According to the Palsana police, one Baban alias Bapu Kapadnis died on the spot when the tempo overturned near Vareli village of Palsana on Monday night. The tempo overturned when the driver tried to save a pedestrian from being run over, the police added.
In the other case, a motorcyclist Bhavesh Patel was killed on the spot when he was run over by a truck, the police added. The police have registered cases under sections of the IPC and MVA and are investigating.
