CHANDIGARH, Oct 6: Last year's runner-up SD Public School, Sector 32 began their campaign with a bang in the second Rao Jai Singh Memorial basketball tournament which commenced at New Public School-18, here today. SD-32 in their opening league match beat Shivalik Public School-41, 55-36. The half-time score was in favour of SD School at 25-15.Sukhbir Singh chipped in with 16 points for SD-32. Chander Parkash and Jaspreet also contributed 14 and 11 points respectively to the score. For SPS-41, Gurinderpal and Amandeep got 11 and eight points respectively.
SD School, in their second outing outplayed hapless Guru Nanak Public School-36, in all the sdepartment of the game to score a 79-43 victory. SD School-32 were leading by 31 points at the break 41-10.
In the second session, had the eventual winners not fielded their second string, it would not have been possible for GNP's lads to narrow the margin, who in the first half of the contest were only able to get 10 points.
Chander Prakash led the SD's attack with 20 points. Suresh also sunk 19 points for the team.
For GNP Jagpreet got 23 points including five three-pointers while Vikramjit netted 19 points.
In another league match, holders DAV School-8 handed out a 58-11 drubbing to New Public School-18 and sound a warning to their opponents in the meet. DAV led 36-9 at the break. Harjot and Amrish with 15 points each were the main scorers for DAV-8. Jetinder (4) mainly scored for NPS-18.
Five teams are participating in the meet and the matches are being played on round-robin league basis.
