Wicketkeeper-batsman Vijay Dahiya had already been named to lead the team. The selectors named a list of 17 players and three reserves for the one-dayers and 16 members and five reserves for the four-day Ranji matches. The selectors had initially picked 32 probables for the season. Eighteen more were later added and the sports committee sought `open trials'.

All the selectors, including Madan Lal, Kirti Azad, Surinder Khanna, Mannu Nayyar, Rakesh Shukla (coach), Sunil Dev (chairman) and Vijay Dahiya attended the meeting to select the teams. All the players including reserves have been asked to report to Rakesh Shukla and Surinder Khanna at 9 am on October 14 at the Kotla grounds. Delhi take on Haryana in the season's first match at Rohtak, from October 21 (one-day) which will be followed by the four-day Ranji game (October 22-25).
