Megha ousted
NEW DELHI: Top seed Megha Vakaria of Mumbai was ousted 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-4 by Nandita C in the DSCL National Tennis tournament. Megha made it to the next round of the under-16,beating Preeti Rao 6-3, 6-3.
In the boys' under-14, second seed Vikrant Sane, third seed Nishank Mishra, fifth seed Devinder Singh and seventh seed Rohan Gajjar entered the next round.
Top seed Parantap Chaturvedi of Delhi lost 4-6, 2-6 to Ashutosh Singh in the under-16 second round.
Mukesh team wins
FARIDABAD: Mukesh Kumar's team comprising Lt Col Abhai Singh, Ashok Bhatia and HK Babbar won the Royal Challenge-Aravalli Open Pro-Am at the 72-par Aravalli Golf Course.
Ali Sher's team of Rattan Sehgal, SS Duggal and Nareshwar Dayal finished second while Vijay Kumar's team of Sukhdev Singh, Ajay Johl and S Kothari came in third.
CR champs
MUKTSAR: Central Railways, Mumbai, won the women's title, defeating Eastern Railways, Calcutta, 57-51 in the finals of the first All-India Raja Porus basketball tournament.
Top-rated Tisco, Jamshedpur, won the men's title, defeating Punjab Police 62-55, at Gangaram Basketball Stadium at Gidderbaha.
Karate team
CALCUTTA: A five-memberIndian karate team will take part in the fifth International World Headquarter Karate Grading Camp '98 to be held in Bangkok from October 16.
The team, comprising AR Deshpande, KM Kolabkar, GU Arvind, JY Kisan, KS Rajaram, would be accompanied by Prof MA Ali as coach.
