Rights body seeks arrest of policemen

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
CHENNAI, Oct 15: The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) today demanded the immediate arrest of the five policemen suspended in the wake of the suicide of 21-year-old pregnant woman, Chitra.

The Tamil Nadu Government has already ordered a Crime Branch (CID) probe into the incident.

The PUCL team demanded protection and emergency medical care for Ravi, the woman's husband, who is still in the hospital.

The team members, who visited the hospital yesterday, found Ravi and two others, Singadurai and Kalidas, manacled to their beds. Only after the PUCL members made a strong protest with the doctors, the manacles were removed.
