Foreign Trade Act being amended to meet WTO norms

ENS ECONOMIC BUREAU
NEW DELHI, OCT 15: The Foreign Trade Act is being amended to meet WTO stipulations. The government is engaged in reviewing entire gamut of policies which are misaligned with WTO guidelines, N N Khanna, additional secretary in the commerce ministry said on Thursday. He was speaking at a workshop organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry to improve awareness about WTO.

Khanna appealed to industry to contribute as a back-up team for negotiations in the final round of agreements in Geneva next year. "Interaction between government and industry should commence immediately," he said.

Industry should understand that it has benefited as a result of aligning itself with the WTO regime, he said.
