Unseasonal rain lashes Vadodara

VADODARA, Oct 15: Heavy rain lashed the district in the past 24 hours, brought down the temperature and also gave some respite from the scorching heat.

Informing that all the 12 talukas of Vadodara district had recorded moderate to heavy rain, weather officials said that the mercury had fallen from remarkable high of 36 degrees celsius to less than 30 degrees celsius during the day and from 23 to 21 during the night, respectively. They forecast further fall in the temperature in the wake of heavy rainfall during Thursday night.

The downpour, nonetheless also caused waterlogging in various lowlying areas in the city, such as Panigate and other interiors of the old city and remote villages in Dabhoi, Jetpurpavi, Naswadi, Sankheda and Kwant. The same, however, left little impact on the life as the heavy rainfall was in the wee hours of Thursday.

According to official information, Karjan taluka received 13 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 am, while Jetpurpavi, 130 mm, Dabhoi, 20 mm, Chhotaudepur, 44 mm, Naswadi, 32 mm, Padra, 2 mm, Baroda, 38 mm, Waghodia, 7 mm, Savli, 11 mm, Sinnor, 6 mm, Sankheda, 23 mm and Kwant 30 mm. The official added that moderate to heavy rainfall had been forecast in various parts of the Central and South Gujarat during the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Fire Brigade officials said they were getting several calls from Makarpura, Race Course and interior parts of old city such as Dandia Bazar about waterlogging and that they were trying to pump out water from the said areas.
