GEB, GSECL sign agreements

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Oct 15: The Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) and Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) on Wednesday signed agreements on the implementation, supervision, operation and maintenance of Gandhinagar and Wanakbori power stations of 210 MW capacity each. The Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) were signed earlier this year. The GEB's move to promote a company for power generation is a step towards introducing privatisation in the Board. The GEB will provide expertise to GSECL to help reduce the overall project cost and tariff. The GSECL also aims to increase the State's generating capacity by mobilising funds from market.

The agreements were signed in the presence of Energy Minister Kaushik Patel, Principal Secretary (Energy) G Subba Rao, Additional Chief Secretary Dr P K Mishra and Board Member (Administration) S K Nanda.

The GSECL is setting up two power projects at an estimated cost of Rs 1,400 crore and will take funds from from financial institutions and banks.

Generation has started at Gandhinagar power project and the Wanakbori station is expected to go for commercial generation by March next. With the two projects, the generation capacity in the State will increase by 420 MW.

According to an official spokesman, the GSECL has initiated action to set up 110 MW gas-based combined cycle power plant at Dhuvaran.
