HC adjourns flood hearing

SURAT, Oct 15: The Gujarat High Court has adjourned to November 19, the hearing on a petition filed by vice-chairman of the State Bar Council of Gujarat and South Gujarat University Syndicate member Hoshang Mirza seeking action against officials for failing to prevent the recent flood in Surat.Mirza had moved the High Court last month stating that the flood was man-made and caused by criminal negligence on part of officials involved in the management of flood. The public interest petition has prayed for prosecution of the district collector, irrigation department officials and dam authorities among others. When the case came up for hearing before the division bench comprising justices K G Balakrishnan and M H Quadri on Thursday, advocate general J M Thakore, sought more time for submitting reply.
