CHANDIGARH, Oct 15: Hosts Chandigarh and Madhya Pradesh bagged titles in the boys and girls sections respectively in the 10th Junior National baseball championship which concluded at the SD Senior Secondary School in Sector 24 here today. Chandigarh boys humbled Delhi 12-0 while MP thrashed Delhi 7-1 to take home the girls crown.Andhra Pradesh beat Punjab 12-8 to win the third place in the boys category. The Chandigarh girls got third position by defeating AP 10-3.
Hardev Singh, who was instrumental in Chandigarh's victory in the final today was declared the `best pitcher' in the boys group while Delhi's Venu Sood `best catcher'. Nitin of AP was adjudged the `best bunter'. The most promising player award went to Aman Kumar of Punjab.
Swati Reddy (AP) and Vandana of Haryana were awarded the `best pitcher' and `catcher' awards amongst the girls. Shweta Thakur was declared the `best hitter'.
Sangeeta of Tamil Nadu got the most promising player's award in the girls section.
Haryana Transport Minister, Krishan Pal Gurjar gave away the prizes to the winners.
Gourav shines
Gourav Mehta's unbeaten knock of 66 runs enabled DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, to score a facile 110-run victory over Govt Senior Secondary School-27 to enter the final of the Shivalik Trophy cricket tournament being played at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.
In another match Sanjay Public School beat Shivalik Public School-41 by 5 wickets to get a berth in the semifinal.

Rebels win
Rebel Club beat Goyal Club by ten wickets in the second Paradise Cricket Cup at Panchkula today.
Scores: Goyal Club: 143 (Parveen Mor 64, Naveen Thapar 21; Sarpreet 3-22) lost to Rebel Club: 145 for no loss (Narinder Walia 87 n.o., Deepak 48 n.o).
Sarabjit Kaur
Winner of the bronze medal in the Rath Indian Open half marathon held recently in New Delhi, Sarabjeet Kaur of Punjab, represented India in the World Half Marathon, which was held in Zurich (Switzerland) on September 27. She is working as a stenographer in the Punjab Civil Secretariat.
