Mukhi's midnight hunt yields little

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, October 15: There were no earth-shattering announcements and no suspensions today. The minister on the prowl came back empty-handed from his midnight hunt.

Finance Minister Jagdish Mukhi, who was on night patrolling yesterday, went on a round of south Delhi as part of the CM's ``Main sari raat jagoongi taki Dilliwale so saken'' campaign. Mukhi kicked-off his night-shift by inspecting the PCR van standing outside the Hyatt Hotel. The minister found that instead of three men who are supposed to be on duty, there were only two there. The head constable on duty informed him that the third policeman had gone out for official work. The minister was planning to proceed to his next destination, when he discovered that the wireless set in the PCR van was not working.

Due note was taken of the lapse and the message relayed to the higher authorities. And that was probably the high-point of the minister's all-night patrolling.

From Hyatt, the minister proceeded to Hauz Khas police station. This time, there were no goof-ups and the Additional SHO, who is the incharge greeted him in full uniform. Mukhi carried out a detailed inspection of the entire police station, including the maalkhana, where the routine haul made by the policemen is stored, and the arrest cell. On discovering three persons in the cell, the minister asked and got a full briefing about the circumstances under which they were arrested.

The minister then moved on to the police station in Greater Kailash-I. Finding nothing amiss, Mukhi went on to the police stations at Kalkaji and Tughlaq Road. Everything was in order and the minister returned home without anything noteworthy to report to the CM.

The highlights of the minister's patrol were discussed at the luncheon meeting of the cabinet held in the CM's office. The schedule for other minister's has also been decided. Dr Harsh Vardhan will be out on the streets today, followed by H.S. Balli. The minister next in line is Poornima Sethi and the newly inducted cabinet minister Devender Singh will be out on Sunday. They will come full circle on Monday when the CM will be on duty again.
