NEW DELHI, October 15: The Delhi Government has decided to file a plea in the Supreme Court against the immediate phasing out of 20-year-old commercial vehicles in Delhi. The public distribution system (PDS) in the festival season has been badly hit by the phase-out order. At the press briefing today, Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj said: ``We need at least 190 trucks to meet the daily demands of the PDS. However, only 40 trucks are available with us''.
Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister Poornima Sethi said: ``We will be appealing in the SC that the PDS will completely collapse if the vehicle phase-out order is implemented. The trucks carrying the PDS should be allowed to pass, while we keep replacing them''.
On the issue of edible oil shortage the new CM said: ``People have taken to palmolien oil quite favorably so there is no shortage edible oil at the moment. We are trying to get the oil packaged in 1 kg and 5 kg polypacks''.
