Army foils ISI plan to trigger communal riots in Jammu

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
JAMMU, Oct 18: The Army troops today killed a Pakistan intruder in Samba sector and foiled an ISI plan to engineer large-scale disturbances, particularly communal riots in the State's winter capital of Jammu.Sources identified the slain intruder as Mohammad Yonus Dar. An AK rifle, six tiffin bombs and a number of packets containing some poisonous substance, besides maps of a few government buildings and religious places were seized from him.

Sources said the alert jawans of JAK Rifles today noticed three persons sneaking into the Indian territory through Basantar river from across the International Border (IB). As they came within their firing range, the jawans challenged them. The intruders, however, opened fire forcing the jawans to retaliate. One of the intruders was killed during the exchange of fire, while the other two escaped back to Pakistan side leaving behind the body of their slain accomplice.

Sources said the incriminating documents seized from the possession of the slain intruder includedmaps of Raghunath Temple and Jama Masjid, various government buildings including residences of some VIPs, besides water tanks of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) in Jammu.

The seizure of tiffin bombs and and also the packets of poison from him gives enough indications that the intruders were sneaking into the State to target not only Government buildings, but also the places of worship belonging to both the communities. Besides, they also had plans to poison the drinking water being supplied to Jammuites, sources added.

This, sources said, appears to have been planned by the ISI to cause large-scale disturbances and also communal riots in the State's winter capital before the Durbar Move (shifting of civil secretariat and other offices) from Srinagar. However, the alert jawans foiled the ISI plan and averted a major tragedy, sources added.
