Light, camera, action for Savarkar film

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KOLHAPUR, Oct 20: The long-awaited film on the life of freedom fighter `Swatantryaveer' V D Savarkar will finally see the light. The Shantakiran Film Studio in Kolhapur is getting ready for the shooting schedules which will start on November 1.

The dream project of popular music director Sudhir Phadke, alias Babuji, is being directed veteran Marathi film maker Ram Gabale.

Phadke had toured many countries to appeal to the Indian community settled abroad to donate generously for the film. Not less than three directors have been changed. The script has been rewritten to poilsh it up many times.

Unhappy with the work of directors assigned to the project in the past, the reels that were shot abroad were scrapped. Finally, the project was handed over to Ram Gabale, a veteran with a golden touch.

Shantakiran Studio in the vicinity of the picturesque Rankala Lake is full of activity. A crew of more than 50 backstage artistes are busy putting up a set of `India House' in London which was a home away from home for revolutionaries like Savarkar, Madanlal Dhingra and others.

The set itself is likely to cost some Rs 8 lakh. The team led by well-known art director Sharad Pol and Malkapur-based artiste Madhav Desai are scrutinising pictures of India House to provide authenticity to the set.

All eyes are now fixed on November 1. Ears are tuned to listen to "lights, camera, action". The focus wil be on India House to provide us a glimpse of the stormy days in the life of Swatantrayaveer Savarkar.
