St John's, NPS-18 in semifinal

CHANDIGARH, Oct 20: St John's High School-26 and New Public School-18 got a place into the last four stage of the under-16 boys category in the Edmund Rice cricket tournament being played at St John's High School.

St John's-26 beat Shishu Niketan School-22 by 6 wickets while NPS-18 edged past Govt Model School-28 by nine runs.

In the matches played yesterday, Govt Model School-44 scored a 44-run victory over Yadavindra Public School, SAS Nagar while Hansraj Public School, Panchkula beat Vivek High School-38 by six wickets to get a berth into the semifinals of the boys under-14 section. For Govt Model School-44 Shariq played a stellar role scoring 40 runs and guided his team to victory. While Kabir and Dinesh got wo wickets each for the winners.

Under-16: Shishu Niketan-22: 55 in 17.5 overs (Naveen 16 n.o., Rajat Talwar 4 for 15, Saurav Talwar 2 for 12, Uday Karan 2 for 8); St John's-26: 57 for 4 in 14.5 overs (Ajay Paul 26 n.o.).

NPS-18: 79 in 20.5 overs (Tanvir 16, Jeetinder 3 for 25, Manu 2 for 16); Govt Model School-28: 70 in 21.4 overs (Dinesh 22, Bhaskar 3 for 14, Chand Pratap 2 for 14).

Under-14: Govt Model School-44: 130 in 24.3 overs (Shariq Iqbal 40, Harvinder 16, Amandeep 14, Harmeet 3 for 37, Bikramjeet 2 for 20); YPS: 109 in 22.1 overs (Jaideep 31, Harmeet 11, Kabir 2 for 20, Dinesh 2 for 21); Vivek High School-38: 68 in 17.3 overs (Dhruv 23, Navneet 3 for 9, Nitin Gandhi 2 for 2); HPS, Panchkula: 69 got 4 in 18.3 overs (Gaurav Chopra 25 n.o, Pankaj 10).

Volleyball trials
Trials to select Haryana boys and girls team (under-15) for the forthcoming sub-junior national volleyball championship to be held at Cuttack from November 1 to 5 would be held on October 23 at Mahavir Stadium, Hisar at 11 a.m.

According to a press release, players born on or after January 1, 1983 will be eligible to take part in the trials.
