Chemists withdraw strike Chemists in Mumbai have withdrawn their agitation following the state government's order issuing a stay on the two per cent octroi on medicines levied by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in August. The order was verbally conveyed to the four checkposts on Wednesday. The Retail and Dispensing Chemists' Association had posted volunteers at the checkposts to prevent medicines from entering the city. With the order reaching the checkposts, the association is now allowing medicines into the city, and around 20 vehicles have already been allowed in.Antique shop raided Ivory Goods worth around Rs 2.7 lakh were seized from a prominent antique shop in Colaba following a raid by officers of Thane Wildlife Division on Saturday.According to Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife Division) Nitin Kakodkar, 61 artefacts including carvings and bangles were seized from Philips Antique Shop near Regal cinema hall. A case has been filed against the shop-owner,Farook Issa, under the Wildlife Protection Act. Wildlife wardens sent in Bombay Environmental Action Group activist Manish Moghe as a dummy customer. A deal was struck and a cash memo was prepared when the wildlife wardens stepped in and seized the contraband. Naval copter rescues woman A woman and her prematurely delivered infant were rescued by a naval helicopter from aboard a merchant vessel on Wednesday evening. Agents of the MV Pearl of Abu Dhabi, sent the Navy a distress call when the ship was about 240 nautical miles south-west off Mumbai.A Seaking helicopter was dispatched with a lady medical officer to attend to the lady, the wife of the second officer and five months pregnant. Both mother and child were brought to Mumbai, where they have been admitted to hospital. One hurt in Bandra firing One person was shot at in Bandra (E) on Wednesday evening. According to the police, Isrul Ismail Khan (22) was injured when Adik (20), who worked as a tailor in Isrul's elderbrother Mohazin Ismail Khan's garment shop at Bharat Nagar, Bandra, fired at him. Isrul had found Adik selling garments illegally when Mohazin was away from the shop. An angry Isrul got into an argument with Adik and after some time the tailor left. At 9.30 pm, Adik returned with his friend Guddu and shot at Isrul. The duo fled the scene immediately. Isrul sustained two bullet injuries, on his neck and jaw. He has been admitted to Bhabha Hospital and his condition is said to be stable. The accused are still at large.
