Debate on New Rent Act

The Bombay Catholic Sabha has organised a public discussion on the `New Rent Act' on October 25 at Our Lady of Dolours High School Hall, Marine Lines, at 11.00 am. Minister of State for Housing, Raj K Purohit, will speak on the issue.

Western Fleet Commander

Rear Admiral Suresh Mehta assumed command of the Western Naval Fleet, the navy's sword arm, at a ceremony on Wednesday. A product of the National Defence Academy, Admiral Mehta has flown extensively from the navy's first carrier INS Vikrant as a fighter pilot. He has commanded the frigates INS Beas and INS Godavari. He was formerly the Assistant Controller Warship Production & Acquisition at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi.

Lecture byGreek Princess

Her Highness Princess Irene of Greece will deliver a talk on `Life, Philosophy and Health' at Bhavan's Kanji, Khetsey Sabhagriha, Kulpati Munshi Marg, Chowpatty, at 4.30 pm on Saturday. Governor P C Alexander will preside over the lecture, which has been organised by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

United Nations Day celebrations

The Maharashtra United Nations Association is celebrating United Nations Day in collaboration with the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations, Government of Maharashtra, on October 24 at 5.30 pm at Centrum Hall, First Floor, World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade.

Thai team to visit Mumbai

Seree Wangpaichitr, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, will lead a delegation to the city on October 26 to promote `Amazing Thailand Year 1998-99'. Major General Charouck Arirachakaran, secretary to the Committee of the 13th Asian Games, will also give details about the 13th Asian Games to be hosted by Bangkok in December.
