MANDI, Oct 22: Former champions Punjab suffered a big jolt to their campaign this season in the North Zone Ranji Trophy cricket as they lost their opening one-day match to Himachal Pradesh by two wickets here today.

Brief scores: Punjab 145 in 43.3 overs (Navjot Sidhu 57; Parveen 2-19, Jaswant Rai 3-33) lost to HP 146-8 in 49.3 overs (Ajay Mannu 49; Tejinder Singh 2-20, Kailash 3-23).

MATCH TIED: Delhi and Haryana shared two points each as the North Zone Ranji Trophy One-day league match ended in a dramatic tie yesterday at Rohtak.

Brief scores: Haryana 152 in 49.2 overs (Shafique Khan 36, Pradeep Jain 30 not out; Sandeep Angurala 4-23, Robin Singh 2-36, Nikhil Chopra 2-21) tied with Delhi 152-5 in 50 overs (Ashu Dani 54, Vijay Dahiya 33, Ajay Sharma 29 not out; Dhanraj Singh 2-38).

Services defeat J&K: An unbeaten 61 by CD Thomson helped Services defeat hosts Jammu and Kashmir by two wickets in a North Zone match at Jammu.Brief scores: Services 178-8 (C D Thomson 61 not out, SSingh 29, S Verma 22; A Gupta 2-36, S Sharma 2-29, P Bali 2-29) bt Jammu and Kashmir 133 (I Gandroo 28; C Sharma 3-16, A Sharma 2-24).

MP trounce Vidarbha: Half-centuries by Abbas Ali and Raja Ali followed by tight bowling enabled Madhya Pradesh register a 75-run victory over Vidarbha at Indore's Maharani Ushadevi Cricket Ground.

Brief scores: Madhya Pradesh 272-8 in 50 overs (A Ali 62, R Ali 69 not out, A Khurasia 45; P Gandhe 4-49) bt Vidarbha 197-6 in 50 overs (Y Ghare 67 not out, U Gandhe 28; M Majithia 2-33).

Rajasthan bt Railways: Rahul Kanwat's 73 and useful contributions from Kaushal Devra (40) and Ashish Kapoor (27 not out) enabled Rajasthan beat Railways by five wickets in the Central Zone league match at Jaipur.

Brief scores: Railways 184-6 in 50 overs (Abhay Sharma 38, Devendra Singh 37 not out, Zakir Hussain 32; Shamsher Singh 2-35) lost to Rajasthan 190-5 in 49 overs (Rahul Kanwat 73, Kaushal Devra 40, Ashish Kapoor 27 not out).
