GURDASPUR, Oct 22: Gurdaspur Police have succeeded in solving the murder of Baba Daya Nand Giri who was killed in the Shiv temple near the Gurdaspur railway station on September 15 night.Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Yadav, while taking to media persons here today, said the alleged killer, Ajay Kumar, a resident of East Mohan Nagar, Amritsar was arrested by the police at the local Kanhuwan Chowk yesterday. The Senior Superintendent of Police said Ajay Kumar (21), an uneducated youth, had become a follower of the Baba about three months ago. The Baba had given Ajay Kumar the job of collecting money from the local octroi posts which the Baba had taken on contract with other partners. The Baba then deployed Ajay Kumar at the canteen of the local civil hospital as the Baba had also taken the canteen on contract.
The SSP said that during interrogation, Ajay Kumar said he developed differences with the Baba over the share of money paid to him for his services. Ajay Kumar also disclosed that the 33-year-old Baba used to sodomise him every night, which he did not like. Ajay Kumar told the police that on the night of the murder, the Baba, as usual, had unnatural sex with him and the the two had slept in the same room. Later, Ajay Kumar woke up and murdered the Baba with a sharp-edged pick which was lying in the room and fled from the temple after stealing Rs 54,000 belonging to the Baba.
The SSP said that after killing the Baba, Ajay Kumar stayed in Batala, Amritsar and Jamshedpur in Bihar. Though the Gurdaspur police raided all these places, Ajay Kumar was arrested only yesterday.
