`Veteran' Afridi makes sparkling debut
Eighteen-year-old Shahid Afridi made a dream Test debut for Pakistan on Thursday, snapping up three wickets in 13 balls to restrict Australia to a total of 207 for six. He marked his country's call for the decisive final match of the series by dismissing the Waugh twins in three balls. Ten balls later, he bowled Darren Lehmann for a first day haul of three for 37.

Srinath wriggles out of Panja's stranglehold
Top seed Prahlad Srinath warded off a stiff challenge from qualifier Saurav Panja to reach the semi-finals of the second-leg of the ITF-GVK Satellite Circuit tennis tournament. Srinath defated Panja 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in one hour, 52 minutes on Thursday to set up a semi-final clash against third seed Patrick Erhardt of Germany.

Shandilya edges past Rafat
Second seed Ashok Shandilya scraped past a fighting Rafat Habib, 5-4, in the quarter-finals of the NSCI Invitational Snooker Tournament yesterday. Meanwhile, favourite Devendra Joshi quelled Mukesh Rehani by a comfortable 5-1 margin to book his place in the semi-finals. He now meets fifth seed Yasin Merchant.
