Mumbai, Oct 23: The key to perfect diagnosis and detection of a disease lies in that small needle which first draws your blood. ``A laboratory acts as a `black box' for analysis and evaluation of the disease and hence plays an important role in efficient patient management,'' according to an US expert Dr Jeffry Lawrence.Lawrence, Medical Director (Worldwide Sample Collection), Becton Dickinson and Company, was giving a key-note address at a seminar on `Clinical Management of Coagulation and Sample Collection' on Friday. hospital stressed on the importance of accurate and safe laboratory testing methods.
``Due to the advances in the bio-medical research and applied technologies, physicians rely heavily on the results of clinical laboratory tests performed on blood and other bodily fluids,'' he said adding, ``In the entire diagnostic process the pre-analytical phase is the most important for both result and health care workers' safety specially with the dangers of killer diseases like AIDS and Hepatitis Blurking around.''
The seminar highlighted the advantages of the recently introduced novel device called Vacutainer, which has replaced syringes worldover as a standard equipment to draw blood.
