Earlier, CBFC's examining committee had watched the film and asked Chairperson Asha Parekh to refer it to the Home Department, Government of Maharashtra. But when the CBFC informed Bhatt about this, he suggested that it be shown to the Union Home Ministry instead, which was done, she said on Friday.

The CBFC chairperson Asha Parekh claimed the examining committee has not given its clearance. ``CBFC's first letter stated that the film has been referred to the Home Department (Maharashtra) because the examining committee members wanted it. Bhatt asked that the film be referred to Union Home Ministry, which has been done, so where is the controversy?'' says Parekh.

Bhatt, however, has expressed shock over the move. "I don't understand the reason for these thoughts. The Regional Officer, Mrs. Kutti, informed me that theChairperson wanted the film to be referred to the Home Ministry on the basis of the synopsis submitted to her.'' According to him, the film was seen by the examining committee and suggested an Adult certificate, to which he agreed.

The film was previewed by the members of the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPAA), who reportedly found nothing wrong.
