MUMBAI, Oct 23: In an unique episode, the winner of a cricket match was decided by a tie-breaker at the Worli Sports Club ground today. The manner in which the outcome was decided could well be a first, claim the organisers. With rain playing spoilsport in the quarter-final duel between Esplanade Liberals and Young Maharashtra of the ongoing Bharat Petroleum under-14 cricket tournament the tie-breaker was applied.Five bowlers of both teams each were asked to bowl two balls each with the number of hits on the stumps deciding the winner.
Sudansu Mishra stole the show hitting the stumps twice in succession paving victory for Esplanade Liberals. Ashish Taushalkar was the other bowler who hit the stumps for the winners.
Kiran Mayekar and Dinesh Naik struck were the only ones to find the mark for Young Maharashtra.
Mishra, thus was adjudged first Man of the Match of the tie-breaker match.
In another match, MiG CC registered an easy nine-wicket victory over New Hind Sports Club.
Brief scores: NewHind 114-5 in 25 overs (Swapnuj Thakur 48, Bravish Shetty 34; Pushkar Kalyankar 3-15) lost to MIG CC 115-1 in 22.4 overs (Pushkar Kalyankar 17, Sanil Rane 44 n.o., Manish Rawre 40 n.o.). MoM: Sanil Rane (MiG).
