GURGAON, October 23: The Gurgaon police have launched a manhunt for two men who allegedly killed one and injured two employees of the 32nd Milestone, a resort located on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, on the night of October 21.One assailant, who claimed to be the son of the Delhi Police Commissioner, demanded to be served liquor at 9.30 p.m. but the resort management reportedly refused. They later explained that both the accused were drunk.
The two men allegedly picked a fight with resort officials and then shot at them.
The Gurgaon police today maintained the assailant had lied about his relationship with the Delhi Police Commissioner.
But there seems to be some confusion on the issue. While talking to Express Newsline, the 32nd Milestone management denied reporting that the accused was related to the Delhi Commissioner of Police. Whereas the FIR lodged says: ``The two before leaving gave a cell number -- 9810109856, and one of them said if anyone required any help, they could approach him as he is the son of the Delhi Commissioner of police.'' Security guard, Ravi Shankar, one of the three shot at, died on the spot, whereas the other two were hospitalised and are now stated to be in stable condition.
The Gurgaon Police, meanwhile, suspect that the assailants had come from Delhi. They also have the cell number of one of the assailants but have been unable to trace him.
``We have been trying the number -- 9810109856 since yesterday but to no avail,'' one police official, who added that the only response they got was: ``the number you have dialed has been switched off''.
The injured -- Rajeev Kumar, general manager (operations) at 32nd Milestone, and the other guard, Rakesh Yadav -- were immediately referred to Apollo Hospital for treatment. The police have thus far not been able to record their statements.
According to medical reports, the assailants had shot seven bullets in all. While the GMO Rajeev Kumar sustained bullet injuries on the chest, stomach and back, Yadav took the impact of the four remaining bullets.
The FIR filed at the Sadar Police Station by Restaurant Captain Abhishek Sanlang alleged: ``The two were so loud that they disturbed the other guests. One of them the better dressed of the two continued talking into his cell until he finished dinner. In between, one of the waiters was sent out to collect a packet of cigarettes from their car.'' Though one of the employees had actually spotted the car, the police said no one was able to give them details on the vehicle.
The restaurant managers are, however, unaware as to what provoked the assailants to fire at the GMO and the guards. But according to eyewitnesses, the GMO, apparently, had an altercation with the assailants, as they tried to misbehave with him and his family. When they took out their guns to shoot one guard, Rakesh Yadav stepped in and was shot at. The other guard on duty, Ravi Shankar, gave chase when he saw the two running away but was shot dead.
Following the incident, the resort has postponed the `re-launch' of its discotheque scheduled for today. The management is also making arrangements to tighten security.
