Woman found dead at inn
A woman reported to be in her 30s was found strangled to death in a room of the Mandir Marg-based Laxmi Narain Birla Mandir Dharamshala yesterday. The victim had apparently checked in at the inn accompanied by a couple and their children on October 18. The couple had got themselves registered as Ranjeet Roy and wife and the victim was introduced as Mrs. Chatterjee, the couple's sister-in-law. The couple had checked out on October 20. The body's discovery came about after a foul smell emanating from the room where the occupants were putting up made a guard break open the door. The police reprimanded the inn's management for carelessness in not checking the rooms before the couple checked-out.

One arrested for murder
Tek Chand, accused of murdering the owner of Savitri Nagar-based Baldev Raj, has been arrested by the Malviya Nagar police. He is reported to have shot the victim with a country-made gun the next morning following an altercation with him the on Diwali night. A hunt is on to trace an absconding associate of his present when the crime was committed. Shopkeeper stabbed to deathn THE body of Jitender alias Jita (20) was found outside his electronic goods shop in Shiv Vihar, Gokulpuri. Jita had stab wounds on his chest and was declared brought dead at the GTB hospital. According to the police, three unidentified men stopped Jita when he was on his way to his shop on Friday morning and stabbed him. A motive has not yet been established.

Businessman's house robbed
Two unidentified assailants robbed a Japanese businessman's house in Anand Niketan under the R.K Puram police station this morning. Since Kinji Uma Koshi is away to Japan, his maid Poonam recieved a youth who came to the house around 11.30 today and asked for him. She told him that she was alone and that Koshi was in Japan on a business trip and offered him water. In the meanwhile, another youth had appeared on the scene and the duo proceeded to tie up Poonam with a bed-sheet before escaping with an un-estimated amount of goods. A case of robbery has been registered.

Two arrested for extortion
Two men claiming to be members of the Abdul Karim Tunda gang, have been arrested for trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from Rajender Kumar Bansal, a Krishna Nagar-based jeweller. Sandeep Joshi, a Bhajapura-resident and Bobby Tyagi, hailing from Baghpat, were allegedly making threatening calls to Bansal demanding the money. The police laid a trap and arrested the two criminals when they rode in on a motorcycle and tried snatching the bag from Bansal.

Contractor falls to death
Jamad Ali, a 51-year-old contractor, reportedly fell to his death from the roof of a Naraina house yesterday. He was declared brought dead at the Safdarjung hospital where he was taken. The house is said to belong to a friend of Jamad, Ajit Singh.
