UPSC exam rescheduled
The Union Public Service Commission has rescheduled the civil service main examinations for agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary science for this year from November 25 to November 28.An official release on Friday stated this was being done in view of the Assembly polls on November 25. There was no other change in the schedule. Admission certificates and time-tables have already been dispatched to eligible candidates, according to the release.
Award for animal care in February
The Venu Menon Animal Allies Foundation's first annual award for individuals or organisations involved in animal care will be given in February. The award -- a medal and Rs 25,000 -- will be decided by a nine-member jury, which includes author Ruskin Bond, environmentalist Iqbal Malik, former Miss India Nafisa Joseph and Wildlife Protection Society of India vice-president Ashok Kumar. There will also be a special award for a school or a student. Applications for the award should reach the foundation at P.O. Box 3557, New Delhi 110024, by October 31.
LG on private hospitals' role
Lieutenant Governor Vijai Kapoor on Friday said that in future private hospitals in Delhi would be meeting a large share of the city's health care needs. He pointed out that it was their duty to fulfill their commitment to the common man.
Inaugurating the Cathlab for diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases at the Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre, he said as land to these hospitals was given on pre-determined rates on condition that certain per centage of patients would be treated free of cost, their commitment and service to poor patients should be rational and transparent. Private hospitals should come forward and resolve this issue so that they can bring relief to the ailing in all segments of society.
205 cows saved from slaughter
About 205 cows and calves have been sent to the PFA Gaushala at Narela on Friday after they were saved from sure slaughter. The Guru Vidyasagar Jeev Raksha Kendra and the Digambar Jain Samiti have been conducting a Ahimsa Abhiyan campaign to save the animals. According to the Kendra general secretary, Sunil Jain, the cattle were bought from their owner. The animals had been sent to Rajasthan and Haryana for sale to butchers.
HC bans lawyers' cellphones in court
When a mobile began ringing in the court of acting chief justice of the Delhi High Court Y.K. Sabharwal during a hearing today, he observed that ``This (carrying of mobile phones inside the court rooms) has to be banned as this is occurring every day. One or two such cases happen everyday.'' He directed the Delhi HC Bar Association president Anoop Bagai to ensure that the ban is complied with. ``Lawyers will have to make some arrangements to solve this problem,'' the judge added. Bagai submitted that several circulars had been issued to ensure that no lawyers carried a mobile phone inside the court room and assured the judge that concrete steps would be taken to prevent the reoccurrence of such a situation.
Medical meet on sample collection
A seminar on coagulation and sample collection is being conducted by the US healthcare company Becton Dickinson at the Sir Gangaram Hospital on Saturday. The seminar would focus on superior techniques in blood collection, the safe and accurate collection of blood samples required for analysis in the diagnostic laboratories and systems like Vacutainers in which the chances for contact of samples with foreign bodies is minimised.
