NEW DELHI, October 23: Favourites Union Academy kept the local hopes alive by entering the superleague of the Junior Nehru hockey tournament with a 7-0 win over St Joseph's High School (Goa) at the National Stadium, here today.In another match, Chotu Ram Zamindar School also qualified for the superleague defeating Udai Pratap Inter College (Varanasi) 4-0. In an inconsequential first match of the day in Pool A, Balkrishan School, Kamroli (Rajasthan) beat YMCA Sports Hostel (Chennai) 4-1.
Against St Joseph's, Union Academy led 2-0 at half time but then pumped in five more goals in the second half to complete the rout. Yesterday's top scorer Ajay Kumar and Rajinder scored two goals each while Raju, Harminder and Rajvinder netted one each.
CRZ had little trouble overcoming former champions Udai Pratap Inter College in Pool A. The winners led 1-0 at break. Satish Kumar (two), Vivek Dahiya, Deepak Kumar (one each) were the scorers for CRZ.
For the Balkrishan School, Kamlesh (two), Jitender and Sanjay (one each) scored while B.Ganesh reduced the margin for Chennai school.
