Hawkers' zone in Thane opposed Residents of Pawar Nagar and other housing complexes in Pokhran 2 have opposed Thane Municipal Corporation's proposal to set up a hawkers zone in the locality which has a population of more than one lakh.At a meeting held on Saturday under the chairmanship of local corporator Harishchandra Narkar, the citizens declared that they would oppose the proposal tooth and nail. Residents condemned the poor services of Thane Municipal Transport and its erratic functioning and rude behaviour of the operating staff. A pravasi sangh headed by Narkar was set up to take up the issue with the TMC. Narkar said he wanted his ward to be the most ideal devoid of any problems including slums, encroachments and other nuisances. Probe into WR mishap The Western Railway will hold a statutory enquiry into the accident which occurred on October 23 between Vasai Road and Nalasopara leading to the death of eight passengers. The enquiry will be conducted by R Rajamani,commissioner for railway safety, between 10 am and 5 pm at the running room of Vasai Road railway station. Those having information about the incident can appear before the commissioner or send information by post.Housewife knew killers: cops Police investigations have revealed that Jaswantiben Kothari, who was hacked to death by three men at her Koteshwar Dham, Ghatkopar, residence on Saturday evening, was familiar with the killers. Deputy commissioner of police, zone-VI, Dalbir Bharti, said: ``The lady opened the door for the three only because she knew them.''Based on the description provided by the building's watchman, Ghatkopar police have prepared the identikit of the three involved in the murder.
