Congress can't face BJP alone: Naidu

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
MUMBAI, Oct 25: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Venkaiah Naidu today said the Congress had developed cold feet in the states going to the polls next month. He said the Congress was desperately looking for allies as it was not in a position to face the BJP alone.

Naidu, who was here to inaugurate the Maharashtra BJP's four-day training camp in the Aarey Milk Colony in Goregaon, told UNI the BJP will announce its candidates for the elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram on November 4.

The party's central election committee will meet in Delhi from November 1 to finalise the candidates. He said his party's central leadership had entrusted the party units in the four states to assess the possibility of forging local electoral alliances.

Naidu said his party was confident of performing extremely well in MP, Rajasthan and Delhi, while it would surely open its account in Mizoram. He ridiculed the Communists for postponing their politburo meeting on thepretext of Assembly elections in the states where they have no presence.

He said the Communists wanted to campaign for the Congress in these states. The Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha is a non-starter and all these opposition parties have reached an understanding, he said, adding the BJP will defeat the ``unholy'' alliance.

Earlier, addressing party workers, Naidu listed the achievements of the BJP-led coalition Government at the Centre saying there was no threat to the Government and it would complete its tenure.

There was no question of the BJP thrusting its election agenda on its allies, he said.

The BJP government had performed well during its six-month tenure with the nuclear tests, the Cauvery water dispute resolution, bringing the prime minister under the Lok Pal Bill, among other things, he said. The camp is being attended by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, Cabinet ministers, ministers of State, office-bearers and workers from all over the State.

The BJP's stand on variousissues including the party ideology, and implementation of the Action Plan 2000 will be discussed at the closed-door conclave.
