CHANDIGARH, Oct 25: Surender of SD College, Sector 32, who bagged the best boxer's award kept his reputation intact by scoring victory over Dharmvir to win gold medal in the light weight category in the 21st Chandigarh state junior boxing championship which concluded at Sports Complex Sector 46 here today. Ashraf Ali was declared the best loser in the meet.Surender, however, could not help his team win the top position in the meet, which went to Boxing Coaching Centre-46 with 21 points. SD-32 got 13 points to win the second place. Way behind at third place was BCC-23 with 4 points.
Surender, a silver medalist in the sub-junior national meet, delighted the few spectators with his impeccable style. He unleashed a furry of punches to which his opponent had no answer. His dominant was complete in the second round itself as he had a big margin over his rival when he entered the third round.
Another pugilist who was impressive in his style was Anand of BCC-46, who made a short of Ashok of DAV College-10, in the light fly weight division. Anand won the bout in 1:45 seconds in the first round as referee stop the contest.
Sukhjinder Singh of SD-23 and Shakti Singh of BCC-46 also won their respective bouts in the first round when referee stop the contest. Sukhjinder beat Abhey of DAV-10 in the light middle weight category while Shakti's victim in the heavy weight division was Kuldeep of SD-32.
Bouts in middle, light and super heavy weight categories were not held.
