SHIMLA, Oct 25: The Resident Doctors' Association of Indira Gandhi Medical College will observe a mass casual leave on October 27 to protest against the delay in the release of revised pay-scales. Shimla: The Himachal unit of the Dalit Samaj Kalyan Parishad has condemned the alleged gruesome murder of an 18-year-old Harijan girl by four youths in Sapred village under the Jwalamukhi police station of Kangra district recently. In a statement issued on Sunday, the parishad president demanded a CBI probe into the sudden spurt of atrocities against Harijans after the BJP-HVC government came to power. Stating that Harijans and other Dalit sections were feeling insecure, he demanded strict action against law enforcing agencies who had failed to protect the Dalits.
Demand to shift director's office to Nahan
Nahan: Anil Kumar, president, and Aslam Khan Azad, general secretary of the HP State Electricity Board Employees' Union, Nahan, in a letter to state Chief Minister P. K. Dhumal have urged him to shift the office of Director (Design), sub-station, Shimla, to Nahan for development of Nahan town. They have requested him to release bonus, house rent, additional dearness allowance and medical allowance to Class III and IV employees of HPSEB at par with the Punjab employees.
Munir Akhtar to join BJP
Bilaspur: Prominent Muslim youth leader Munir Akhtar along with other two hundred supporters has announced that they would join the BJP. Speaking at a public meeting at Mancrot in the presence of Health Minister J P Nadda near here on Saturday, Akhtar expressed faith in the leadership of Chief Minister P. K. Dhuma. Nadda welcomed Akhtar to the party saying that the BJP was not anti-Muslim as propagated by the Congress.
201 grievances redressed at camp
Bilaspur: Out of a total of 265, 201 grievances were settled at the redressal camp chaired by Sub-Divisional Magistrate B L Raghav at Buhar village, in Gherwin area, on Saturday. Meanwhile, 76 grievances, both civil and criminal, were disposed of at a lok adalat presided over by District and Sessions Judge L N Sharma here on Saturday, a press release said.
Rajpur residents demand bank facilities
Palampur: A deputation of Rajpur village residents met former CM Shanta Kumar and urged him to provide bank and postal facilities here. Rajpur is a thickly populated village with a degree college, two senior secondary schools and one high school, However, the village lacks a bank and a sub-post office. Shanta Kumar assured residents that he would make efforts for the opening of a bank branch and a sub-post office.
Badminton championship begins
Una: The 24th Una District Badminton Championship was inaugurated by Dharam Pal Sharma, Superintendent of Police, at the District Badminton Complex here on Saturday. According to Bhagwant Kanwar, general secretary of the association, 120 players are taking part in various championships which will conclude on October 30.
