Hindustan's celebrations spoilt

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, October 25: Hindustan Football Club are facing the worst of times in their golden jubilee year. After narrowly missing the Delhi Soccer Association title, the club had regrouped itself and were hoping to make waves in the Durand Cup before the axe fell on them.

The trouble began when five of their players who were selected to play for Delhi Blues XI failed to report for the semi-final of the Chief Minister's Cup on October 15 as the club was playing a Durand Cup qualifier on the same day.

Though Hindustan secretary D K Bose argues that since the Durand qualifier ended before the start of CM Cup semi-final, the players were sent back to play for the Delhi Blues XI. But DSA secretary Nasir Ali did not utilise the services of the players saying, ``How can a tired player be fielded again''?

The five players were issued a show-cause notice which also refrained them from competing for the club till further orders and club lost to Indian Navy in another qualifier.

An official word from DSA about the outcome of the showcause is still awaited. The problem erupted again when Nasir Ali refused to counter-sign the Hindustan players' list for the DCM Cup qualifier on Sunday, demanding the exclusion of the five `erring players' and IAF were given a walkover.

Hindustan were had requested the All-India Football Federation to intervene. But AIFF's representative, Prit Pal Singh, bowed to the DSA decision and Hindustan's golden jubilee celebrations came to a painful end.
