Wanowrie whip Railway Boys 10-0

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Oct 25: Wanowrie Sports Club played havoc with Railways Boys, Ghorpuri to register a whopping 10-0 win in the III Srikant Lingayat Memorial Football tournament, at the Ghorpuri Military ground here today.

Thundercatz who made a late resurgence, scored four second-half goals to throw Poona Socials out of the championship, while Ghorpuri Young Ones notched up a solitary goal win over Sky Hawks in the matches scheduled for the day.

Railway Boys not only ran out of players before they took to the playing arena (playing with just eight players during the kick-off), but also steam against a well equipped Wanowrie team who dominated the proceedings. The lads from Wanowrie literally toyed with their rivals scoring at will, losing the goal count in the process. The hapless Railway Boys restricted their game to a defensive style but this made no difference to the dominant Wanowrie side. Shailendra Jagtap (4), Kenneth Anthony (3), Vijay More (2) and Lazarus Das (1) were the players to contribute to the goal tally.

In the first match of the day Thundercatz `A' began to click only in the second-half after a lacklustre first session.

Midway in the second-half they broke the ice when left-in Chaitanya Tambe found the net in the 48th minute after latching onto a forwrd pass from Vineet Johnny. Three minute later they scored a second of Venkatesh Santhanam who placed the ball into the net away from the keeper. The third was not far behind when Dhiraj Bali knocked in the ball from a long range attempt. Five minutes before the final whistle Rahul Mankar added the final goal to the tally taking advantage of a defensive lapse.

The last match of the day saw Ghorpuri Young Ones get past Sky Hawks by a whisker. After numerable attacks at the rival goal they managed to get one past the rival keper in the 62nd minute of play.

Incidentaly this goal was scored by Sunil Kadu who was introduced into the game later in the second-half. On account of the finals of the K P Jadhav Memorial tomorrow at the St Vincent's ground matches will resume after a days gap from October 27.

Fixtures for 27th: 1.30 p.m: Tigers Combine vs Parshuramians; 2.30 p.m: Jolly Boys Ghorpuri vs Dynamites; 3.30 p.m: Rangehills vs Strikers.
