Roving Eye

Diwali dos

When Zee TV decided to launch a film magazine, they went about it the only way they know. They called everyone who was anyone on the Zee TV roster. Last Saturday, the Centaur Hotel, Juhu was teeming with telly-types. Anju Mahendroo, Kanwaljeet, Ravi Rai, Arun Frank, Himesh Reshammiya, Manish Goswami and Aloknath were seen rubbing shoulders with Rita Bhaduri, Annu Kapoor, Sachin Khedekar, Pallavi Joshi, and the like. At 3.00 pm, the whole jingbang headed for Holiday Inn and continued the party there.

But given that the party was held by Zee to launch their film magazine Premiere, the absence of film personalities was rather striking. Shah Rukh Khan breezed in and breezed out, as did Sharad Kapoor and Dev Anand. Mahesh Bhatt was the only person who sat around till the wee hours.

Good news

This week promises to be a little more active so the city' party animals need not slit their wrists. The week kicks off with a tequila night at the Fashion Bar & Bistro. Then mid-weekthere are a couple of fashion shows including The Leela Studio's wine-and-cheese fashion preview to be held at the Leela Kempenski, on Thursday. On display will be a line of heavy ethnic wear mainly in net and lace. The week ends on a high note with Priya Paul (of the Park Hotel) hosting a Latino night at the Copa Cabana, on Friday. And on Saturday night, the Oberoi Hotel is holding an International Food Court where select invitees will be treated to a wide variety of cuisine. It seems after last week's lull, the social scene next week will be full of action.

And finally...

Kabir and Nikki Bedi decided to catch up with old friends on Friday night. Back in town for a few days, they held a quiet, small bash for a few friends at Pooja's place. Kabir's daughter lives in Versova with husband Farheen in a very tastefully decorated penthouse apartment -- a perfect setting for an intimate soiree. Pooja Bedi-Ibrahim is one girl who deserves all the praise she gets. This year (and the last) has been full ofturmoil and tragedy but she has always maintained a brave front and is never spotted without a smile on her face. Truly, grace under pressure.
