AGENCIES
Oct 26: Lilian Laslandes bagged two goals as Bordeaux have beaten Nancy 2-0 to go back to the top of the French First Division.

Marseille temporarily took the leadership of the first division on Saturday, when it thrashed Sochaux 4-0.

1860 coach tossed out

BERLIN: 1860 coach Werner Lorant, angry about an offsides call, has been tossed in the late stages of his team's 1-1 draw against Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

However, afterwards, 1860 took advantage of the confusion to score the 1-1 equaliser by Bernd Hobsch, who sent the ball flying left past the keeper on a cross with just three minutes left in the match.

The big winner was Bayern Munich, which built its lead to five points clear as its second-place crosstown rival and third place Leverkusen neutralised each other with the draw.

Munich, off to the fastest start in Bundesliga history, demolished FC Kaiserslautern4-0 on Saturday.

Goals flowing for Ajax

AMSTERDAM: Ajax Amsterdam has downed Cambuur Leeuwarden 4-0 without breaking sweat, moving into third place in the Netherland's Premier League.

Ronald De Boer had a good day, heading the first goal from a corner then pin-pointing Brazilian Wamberto and Georgian Shota Arveladze with crosses for the second and third. Peter Hoekstra scrambled the fourth.

Ajax (6-2-2) moved to third on 20 points but unbeaten Feyenoord still leads the league with 23 points and a game in hand, after coming back to down FC Utrecht 3-2 in a match of 59 fouls.

Jean-Paul Van Gastel celebrated his return from a four-game suspension with two vital goals for the Rotterdammers, both from free-kicks driven low past the wall.

Defender and captain Mitchell Van Der Gaag scored Utrecht's first goal with a diving header but was later sent off for the foul on Julio Ricardo Cruz.

John De Jong scored Utrecht's second and Bonaventure Kalou netted for Feyenoord after an error from keeperFrank Kooiman.

Del Piero leads nine-man juve past inter on late winner

ROME: Alessandro Del Piero slammed in the rebound after 'keeper Gianluca Pagliuca blocked but failed to hold the striker's penalty kick with two minutes left to lift Juventus of Turin, which ended the game with nine players, past Internazionale of Milan 1-0 and into second place in the Italian League.

Despite having French World Cup star Zinedine Zidane expelled for a foul on Portugal's Paulo Sousa in the 49th minute, Juventus maintained control of the action for much of the match last night. However the two-time defending champions did not hit the target until the 88th.

Inter defender Fabio Galante was whistled for fouling striker Filippo Inzaghi in the penalty area, and Del Piero took the ensuing shot from the spot. Pagliuca dove to his left at the base of the post, stopping the ball. But it bounced off his chest and Del Piero pounced to slot home from steps away.

The goal continued Del Piero's resurgence. He has fourgoals, including two for Italy's National team, in his past four games after going through a six-month slump.

At the other end of the field, Inter's Brazilian star Ronaldo was a non-factor. The two-time Fifa player of the year was seeing his first Serie A action in more than a month after being sidelined With Tendinitis in both knees.

Earlier, it took just one week for Fiorentina's Edmundo to go from troublemaker to hero and for as Roma's Francesco Totti to go from hero to scapegoat.

Fiorentina rebounded from its first loss and kept its hold on first place by defeating Salernitana 4-0 as Edmundo, the Brazilian striker, scored twice and assisted on one of Argentine star Gabriel Batistuta's two goals.
