All-party meet on TN cast clashes a failure: parties

ENS & PTI
CHENNAI, Oct 26: The all-party meeting convened by Tamil Nadu government to discuss ways to prevent recurrence of caste clashes had not served its purpose, founder president of the Puthiya Tamizhagam, a Dalit political party Krishnasamy today said.

Krishnasamy, who also participated in the meeting which ended today, said the meeting did not discuss the `improper' implementation of laws relating to untouchability. Failure to implement the laws was the main cause of the frequent clashes in the southern districts of the state.

He said the meeting also did not specify who had the authority to decide on permitting rallies by caste forums.

Krishnasamy said the meeting also could not guarantee the rights of oppressed classes and their prerogative to voice protest against such violations.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK has also charged that the all-party meeting was a `failure', as no useful decision was taken in the deliberations.

Talking to mediapersons at the Secretariat today after staging a walk-out from themeeting, former minister and AIADMK representative V Sathiamoorthy alleged that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had rejected the AIADMK's plea for ordering a judicial probe or a CBI investigation into the Ramanathapuram incidents. Besides he (CM) failed to accept moral responsibility for the incident. The government did not answer properly to the AIADMK's questions in the meeting. Instead it made M A Lateef (INL) and R M Veerappan (MGR Kazhagam) to reply to the charges.
