University declares final BE results

  • After a long delay, the University of Mumbai has speeded up the declaration of all results of final year Bachelor of Engineering.

    The university has declared results of Chemical Engineering (old and revised) and Electrical Engineering (revised) today. It is likely to declare Electrical Engg (old), Chemical Plant Engg (old) and Electronics Engineering (Revised) on Wednesday. The old and revised courses of Production Engineering, Bio-Medical Engineering and Electronic and Telecommunication Engg results likely to be declared on Thursday. Results of old and revised course of Computer Engineering are expected to be declared by Saturday, according to Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Naresh Chandra.

    Dr Chandra stated, ``We have been making all efforts to declare the results. Shortage of adequate number of examiners hampered the release.''

    Oppn declares hunger strike

  • THE Congress-led opposition in the state will go on a token hunger strike at Mantralaya onOctober 30 to demand that the state be declared as wet scarcity affected.

    Leader of opposition in the state legislative council, Chhagan Bhujbal, said MLAs and MLCs of all non-Congress opposition parties have agreed to participate in the strike, which will be from 10 am to 6 pm. The parties will also protest the state government's failure to check rising prices of essential commodities and deteriorating law and order, he added. Leader of opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Madhukar Pichad, will also join the hunger strike.

    A-I bans smoking on flights

  • Air-India has banned smoking on its flights to Europe, UK and USA from October 25, the first day of its winter schedule.

    The restriction comes in the wake of a call given by the World Health Organisation for a worldwide ban on smoking on international flights, a press release said. A similar call was subsequently made by the International Civil Aviation Organisation earlier.

    Pratishthan award for Kalam

  • Top defencescientist Dr A P J Abdul Kalam has been chosen for this year's `Person of Pride' award by the Chaturang Pratishthan. The Pratishthan instituted the award, consisting of a memento and scroll of honour, in 1995 to honour personalities whose achievements during the year brought `pride' to every indian, said a press release.

    Kalam has consented to accept the honour, which will be conferred on him at the Rangsammelan on December 25.

    Former awardees include former Konkan Railway Corporation chief executive E Sreedharan, former Chief Election Commissioner T N Seshan and Indian Space Research Organisation chairperson Dr K Kasturirangan.

    Theatre festival at Nehru Centre

  • Nehru Centre will host a national theatre festival at its auditorium between November nine and 20. The festival will stage 13 plays in Hindi, English, Marathi, Urdu, Bengali and Gujarati. The festival will open with a play by the Naya Theatre of Bhopal, and it will wrap up with Varad Rangbhoomi from Pune, said a pressrelease.

    Humour Club meeting

  • The Humour Club will meet on Friday, October 30, at 6.30 pm at the Nehru Planetarium basement lecture hall. Dr B P Parulkar will explode a `humour gas bomb' at the meeting, which has been thrown open to all.
