Tatkal gas scheme introduced

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Oct 28: The Ministry of Petroleum's long-awaited scheme providing tatkal LPG connection has been introduced all over the country with effect from Tuesday through three oil companies: the Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation.

A consumer will have to pay Rs 4000 extra for a tatkal connection in addition to the security deposit of Rs 900 for a single cylinder or Rs 1,800 for two cylinders, besides Rs 100 for a regulator.

Though the connection is transferable from one place to another place throughout the country like other regular connections, the extra amount of Rs 4,000 is not refundable when the consumer surrenders the connection.

In view of the limited number of tatkal connections allotted by the ministry, none of the oil companies have announced the scheme in the newspapers in apprehension of an unprecedented rush at distributors' offices. However, banners regarding availability of tatkal gas have been displayed outside the offices of all the distributors.

In Gujarat, only IOC has so far started issuing tatkal connections as it has been allotted the maximum number of lines. According to B K Chaudhary, Senior Area Manager (Indane), as many as 3,600 tatkal connections have been allotted for South and North Gujarat areas, while another 2,200 connections had been earmarked for the Saurashtra and Kutch regions.

In Vadodara, tatkal connections are being issued by Indane distributors like Hari Om Gas Agency on Ajwa Road, Krishna Gas Agency at Manjalpur, Rathwa Gas Agency at Akota and Nrisinh Kripa Gas Agency.
