Police suspect suicide in death of RAW officer

Deepak Bajpai
NOIDA, October 28: A senior Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official died under suspicious circumstances in Noida on Saturday. But the police believe it is a case of suicide.

The incident was reported at Kanchanjunga Apartments, in Sector 53, the residence of the RAW officer in question, Lalit Mohan, who was a Superintendent of Police with RAW.

He was admitted to Kailash Hospital, in Sector 27, with serious burns. Doctors there referred him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML). Mohan died in RML on the same day. The Delhi police have completed the formalities and have sent the body for post-mortem.

Mohan's wife reportedly told the Noida police that her husband woke up early on Saturday morning and went to the bathroom at around 5 a.m. She said that he had been smoking.

Later, she heard screams coming from the bathroom. But she found the door had been bolted from the inside. When they finally broke down the door, Mohan was found to be in serious condition.

It was the Noida police who took Mohan to Kailash Hospital in Sector 27. After the intervention of senior RAW officials he was referred to RML hospital. The Delhi police were not able to get his statement.

According to sources, Mohan was undergoing psychiatric treatment in Delhi.

Surprisingly, senior Noida police officials expressed their ignorance in the matter. No case, not even that of suicide has so far been registered by Noida police.
