PUNE, Oct 28: Out of the three fixtures played today, two first division teams fell by the wayside losing to teams of lower divisions. Deccan `A' grounded Falcon S C 5-3 via the tie-breaker, while Indrayani S C and Strikers won by identical margins, defeating Roopali `A' and Rangehills, respectively, by the odd goal in three.First division team Rangehills, had themselves to blame for throwing away a match which they should have won comfortably. The lads from Khadki conceded two early goals to Strikers mainly due to their complacent attitude in the game. Glen D'Souza opened account for Strikers in the 4th minute of play, rushing at the ball rolling towards the keeper and knocked the ball in before the advancing keeper got to it. The second goal followed soon after in the 11th minute. Baptist Lobo headed the ball in from close range which caught the keeper napping.
The Khadki lads trailing two goals did not take to the task seriously and remained goaless in the first-half. Coming back in the second-half after a little pep talk Rangehills felt the sense of urgency and picked up the tempo of the game. Shabir Sayyed who missed two golden opportunities in the first session made amends, scoring one in the 15th minute of the second-half. Later Rangehills the dominant side in the second session missed umpteen chances only due to lack of proper finishing. And to make matters worse Rajan Rangam missed a penalty awarded to them in the dying moments.
Indrayani S C kept their cool and put Roopali out of the reckoning with two second-half goals. Vikram Torse put Roopali ahead in the 20th minute when they were awarded a free kick inside the eighteen yard box. After going a goal down in the first half the Dehu road lads went all out for the equalizer but a sturdy defence denied them any opportunity. The second-half saw Indrayani a rejuvenated side and kept up the pressure on the rivals.
However, in the 12th minmute Anthony Chawdi brought them on even terms with a penalty kick. After a ding dong battle witnessed till the last ten minutes Manoj Balkrishnan found the winner with a neat chip from top of the goalbox over the custodian's head.
The first fixture of the day, an all first division teams affair was a case of fluctuating fortunes. A goal each scored in either half of play by both teams saw the match locked at two goals apiece. The tie-breaker was introduced to break the deadlock. While Deccan got three past the keeper via Gautam Bhosale, Ravi Shetty and Amit Ucheel the Falcon team scored only once through Shamy Nair.
