CJ's word on postings not binding: SC
Holding that recommendations of the Chief Justice of India for appointment and transfer of higher judiciary were not binding on the executive if the consultation process was ignored, the Supreme Court on Wednesday prescribed a multi-judge collegium for the purpose.

Govt turnaround on CVC; single-point directive scrapped
The Centre has reversed its controversial decisions on the Chief Vigilance Commission (CVC) with an amendment ordinance promulgated on Tuesday. The amendments came on the eve of the Supreme Court hearing on a petition challenging the CVC ordinance of August 25 on the grounds that it did not meet the Court's suggestions for the upgradation of the Commission to a statutory body.

Laloo & Mishra in judicial custody
The designated special CBI court yesterday remanded former Chief Ministers of Bihar Laloo Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra along with four others to judicial custody after inconclusively hearing their regular bail petitions in connection with the multi-crore rupee fodder scam.
