Chandigarh, Oct 29: The Punjab Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) today launched its website on Internet in an effort to make the state a destination for tourists, particularly non-resident Indians.Launching the website, Union Minister of State for Industries Sukhbir Singh Badal said India's tourism industry alone could become the biggest foreign exchange earner if this sector was nurtured and promoted properly.
``We have not been able to attract tourists, though our country is endowed with natural scenic beauty and centres of tourists' interests,'' Badal said adding the next year be declared as ``visit Punjab'' in tune with ``visit India'' year.
He said information technology revolution was going on in Punjab with the computerisation of all departments and institutions. ``Punjab website'' had been adjudged as the best by the Government of India, the minister said.
Punjab Tourism Minister Jagir Kaur said PTDC had wiped out its cumulative loss of Rs 72 lakh this year and opened all its closedtourist resorts and motels in the state. PTDC is also running holiday homes at Shimla, Dharamshala, Mussoorie, Jaipur, Srinagar and Goa, she said.
