GEDA panel calls on minister
A delegation of the Gujarat Energy Development Authority (GEDA) employees called on Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana in Vadodara on Thursday appealing him to urge the Gujarat government not to transfer the GEDA head office to Gandhinagar. A GEDA press note said that Rana assured them of a favourable action in the context. GEDA employees also alleged that some senior GEDA executives had begun to threaten the employees of dire consequences if they did not withdraw their agitation.

Silver jubilee
James Cameron's mega-blockbuster `Titanic' has become the first ever Hollywood film celebrating its silver jubilee week in the city. Running at the city's Rajshree cinema for 25 weeks now, the film continues to draw a full-house.

Fines collected
The Entertainment Department recovered fines to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh from several cable-operators for various irregularities following a series of surprise checks conducted at Padra on Wednesday. An official release stated on Thursday that while some operators had failed to pay their quarterly entertainment tax, others had not maintained their accounts properly. Meanwhile, Resident Deputy Collector C R Kharsan has asked all cable operators of the district to deposit the quarterly tax, beginning October, without delay.

Ticketless travel
As many as 2,087 cases of ticketless, irregular travel were detected in October by the Vadodara division of the Western Railways. The division has procured an amount of Rs 2.06 lakhs as fines from ticketless passengers and for unbooked luggage. The division proposes to conduct a similar drive with the help of the Gujarat Railway Police Force in near future.

Austerity Day
The National Savings Scheme of the Union Ministry of Finance will observe World Austerity Day on Friday. Deputy Director of the regional National Savings department will organise a special celebration on the occasion at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Fatehgunj Head PO at 3 pm.

Board meeting
A meeting of the Board of Directors of Gujarat Cycles Limited will be held on Friday at the company's registered office at Waghodia to look into the unaudited financial results for the quarter ended on September 30.

Date extended
The last date for receipt of entries for the Philatelic exhibition (Gujpex-98) to be held in the city between December 17 and 19, has been extended to November 10 as against the earlier announced date of October 30.

Eye operations
Haribhakti Eye Hospital will perform free operations on 100 cataract patients in November on a first-come-first-serve basis. Registration will be open from November 1 at the hospital, opposite Sai Baba Temple, Atmajyoti Ashram Rd, Ellora Park from 9 am to noon and 4 to 6 pm.
