Kaushik nets five goals

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, OCT 30: Kaushik Pal's `penta' powered Western Railway to a thumping win over hapless Sangli District Football Association in a Mini Rovers Cup football first-round match at the Cooperage today.

Kaushik, a touch player, ran riot along with co-strikers Felix Joseph --scorer of the other goal -- and Manoj Rawat as the Mumbai railway side registered a tennis score against overawed visitors.

Yavatmal, another outstation team saved face against local Holiday Inn with a late recovery. Trailing 0-3, two late goals all but took the first round encounter into the shoot-out.

Clint Santos with two goals (42nd and 66th minutes) and Wallace Aranha (57th) saw Holiday Inn sitting pretty until Yavatmal induced some anxiety in their camp despite being a man short after substitute Gajanan Korde's expulsion in the 54th minute.

Mid-fielder Rajesh Kalaskar hit back with two goals in the 70th and 80th minutes but the Mumbai side held on to their slender lead.

CRPW hold Rhino

Central Railway Parel Workshop(CRPW) held Rhino Sports Club to a 1-1 draw in the MDFA-conducted Harwood football league at the St Xavier's ground, Parel, today. Rhino led 1-0 at the breather.

Rhino were off to a good start from the word go with good combination among the forwards. Uttpal Kadam ran down from the right and was challenged by CRPW goalkeeper Gilbert D'Souza who left his charge. Uttpal, however, managed to get the ball past the 'keeper and Rhino's Ashish Bhoir ran and placed the ball into an untenanted net to give Rhino the lead.

In the second-half, CRPW held the upperhand but initially their forwards found Rhino 'keeper Namdev Kesarkar hard to beat. The CRPW attack however found the net in the 60th. Pascal and Manuel D'Souza combined well before putting Bosco Fernandes through.
