GHAZIABAD, October 30: An unidentified assailant was killed in a police shootout last evening in the Moradnagar. The police said that he was fleeing after stealing a car and abducting the woman driver.Nirmala Sharma of Sanjay Nagar had gone to the Kali Mandir last evening. As soon as Nirmala opened the door of her Maruti car after coming out of the temple, two men pushed her inside and one of them ooccupied the driving seat. Two passersby gave the car a chase on their scooter.
Meanwhile, the Kavi Nagar SHO happened to pass by the same road and Nirmala's speeding car hit his vehicle. The two scooterists told him obout the incident and the police took over the chase. The police tracked down the car to Shahpur road.
Meanwhile, the assailants had snatched Nirmala's jewellery and cash and abandoned the car near a field. The police followed them on foot but the assailants allegedly opened fire. The police returned the fire killing one of them on the spot. The other assailant managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
