Citygritty -- Pune

Rasika and Aishwarya
Kerala Kraft
Works of local art and craft from Kerala come to town, courtesy an exhibition put up by the Handicrafts Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd., Thiruvanthapuram, from November 2 to 11. To be held at the Tilak Smarak Mandir, Puneites can have a look at items made from sandalwood, rosewood, bell metal, papier mache, bamboo, banana fibre, cane, screwpine and other materials exclusive to the southern state. Goodies from down under, that's what's in store!

Stepping it up!
It's working! The escalator at the Pune Railway Station, which leads to the main bridge connecting the various platforms, is in operation. Since its inauguration in July by Minister of State for Railways Ram Naik, the escalator hit the news again after an incident in September when a woman broke a glass bangle while on the escalator, pieces of which hindered the escalator's operation.

Reacting to reports that the escalator was being misused by children to play on, Railway Public Relations Officer Y.K. Singh says, ``People are not always aware of how an escalator operates. Children and others, too, would use it without understanding its operation. The first two months after its inauguration, members of the Railway Protection Force were posted near the escalator and now ticket checkers have been posted to ensure its smooth operation and check that only those with a valid ticket use it''.

Spirited encounters
With Halloween Night being celebrated all over, can Pune be left behind? Come this weekend, and the spirits shall roam the space at Bullocks and Thunderbolt. With event managers Stance and Sphinx setting up a Demon's Night Out at the former venue and a Halloween theme party at the latter, it's time to get spooked out of your wits!
