At an informal chat with media persons here on Thursday, Advani said that since the Centre was following the national agenda for good governance, there was no question of changing the city's name. When pointed out that his own party in Gujarat was planning an agitation demanding that the city's name be changed to Karnavati, he categorically stated, ``No one will do that and there will be no protests over the issue by his party.''

Advani's statement comes as a major setback to the local BJP unit which was planning to make a representation before him in this regard and was hoping he would accede to their request since he was an MP from Gujarat. Earlier in the day in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's general board meeting, the repeated use of Karnavati instead of Ahmedabad by Mayor Joitaram Patel caused a commotion betweenthe BJP and the Opposition.

Leader of the Opposition Himmatsinh Patel said that though the state government had cleared the change of name, it had been rejected by the Centre, which has also informed the High Court about the decision. A case had been filed in the High Court challenging the decision to change the city's name from Ahmedabad to Karnavati. He said the BJP could use the word in its party correspondence, but when it came to the general board or even the corporation matters, the party should now stop using Karnavati.

Hasankhan Pathan even threatened to move the court if the BJP further continued to use word Karnavati for Ahmedabad. He said the BJP wanted to change the name has was allergic to Islamic history.

Also, Advani said there was no need to institute a CBI inquiry into the killing of an alleged ISI agent in a recent police encounter at Ahmedabad.
