Mumbai Police edge out Colts by two runs

MUMBAI, Nov 1: In an exciting finish, Mumbai City Police prevailed over Mumbai Cricket Association Colts by two runs in the fourth round of the Police Invitation Cricket Shield Tournament, sponsored by Jayantilal Khandwala & Sons and Khandwala Securities at the Parsee Gymkhana here on Sunday.

MCA Colts, chasing a total of 278 for a win, were 273 for five at the beginning of the last over of the day and needed six runs off it. Venkat Mudaliar, a medium pacer who bowled the last over, gave only three runs to the sixth wicket pair of Mandar Phadke and Amit Pagnis.

A Century by Wasim jaffer (111: 1x6, 8x4) and his 161 runs partnership for the third wicket with Rajesh Sutar (91: 2x6, 8x4) enabled National hit up 303 for seven in the allotted 70 overs. In reply, Cricket Club of India were shot out for 121 with Himanshu waingankar contributing 42. Medium pacer Atul Ranade and left-arm spinner Nilesh Kulkarni took three wickets each.

Sandeep Gaikwad scored 30 runs and took four wickets to help Shambhaji Nagar to defeat Kokan by 140 runs in the last league match of the Samna Trophy Cricket Tournament at the MIG ground, Bandra here today.
