Government to integrate two sciences

The government is making efforts to integrate natural sciences with physical sciences to provide a balanced and appropriate knowledge base, according to Dr R A Mashelkar, Director General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Addressing meritorious students from Raigarh, Thane and Mumbai districts on Saturday, Mashelkar warned that having information or database alone was not enough but it was essential to make use of these advanced databases, information technology and communication for observation, synthesis and appropriate analysis for development of knowledge in any field. Mashelkar urged students to take up the challenge of goading India to higher heights by taking advantage of the available intelligence, bio-diversity and traditional wisdom.

2 Gawli men arrested

Two sharpshooters of the Arun Gawli gang were arrested in central Mumbai this morning after they opened fire at a police squad closing in on them.On receiving atip-off, a special squad attached to zone-3 laid a trap near Shakti Mill Compound on Dr E Moses Road. At around 3 am, three Gawli men arrived on the spot and were seen making suspicious movements. When police asked the three to surrender, one of the gangsters fired at the police squad. But the cops, who were wearing bullet-proof vests, swiftly overpowered two gangsters. The third escaped under cover of darkness. A manhunt has been launched to nab the third suspect. The arrested gangsters have been identified as Ravindra Narayan Satvi (29) and Sandesh Prabhakar Nikam (24). Satvi has been named in eight serious offences, including murder, while Nikam is facing charges in a murder case.
